About

Hi! we are Sailing Prima4

Welcome to our adventure

we are a family of four and we would like to share our story and let you participate in our journey. My wife and I always had the dream to sail around the world and visit all the different cultures, landscapes and oceans on a floating home when we became 50 years and the kids are grown up. To prep for our dream we started back in 2019 and bought a tiny motorboat to get the first “on-water” experience and at least I was totally into it. Repairing the boat was a lot of work/fun and we spent two great summer holidays in Croatia exploring the small islands and getting into waterski.

2020 – let switch gears

2020 Kind of sucks, we decide to sell our little RIB and upgrade our travel plans to a new motor home. Traveling became quite difficult so we switched gears and upgrade our way of travel to a more adventurous way. With our dream in our minds, we plan our first road trip across Italy down the coast side until Calabrian and Sicilian. We spent 5 awesome weeks on “Goldfish” (how we called our EuraMobil Camper) and enjoyed the time with our kids and of course get used to a different way of living. In autumn we decide to change our lives a bit and expand the self-employment of my wife so we can afford to travel the world before 50 in 2030.

2021 – speeding up a bit

But things might not change so quick, travel restrictions are still present so we kept “Goldfish” and took him on another journey down to Italy, Puglia where we met Giorgio and his wife Mizue and listen to their inspiring stories. We enjoyed all the the wonderful spots during our Sommer vacation in Puglia.

So time to speed up a bit and sign up for an official “German” sailing license – a.k.a. “SKS”. With some warm clothes I head to the theoretical part of the sailing training in October in Portorose, Slovenia. I passed this first part of the exam and had a great time onboard which makes me even more confident that we should not waste any time and get ready for our adventure before it’s might be too late.

We hold a family-council and decide move forward with our vision. A house must be sold, a yacht has to be found and of course, a ton of things had to be organized.

As a super naive workaholic couple, we know we can do it on our own but due to the amount of tasks, less experience and of course the wish to set sail in spring 2022 we knew we need some support.

We found a super experienced estate agent by accident and she supported us selling in our house and also shared her sailing stories with us.

Additionally, as we know nothing about sailing vessels so far we had to start looking for some expertise. It was clear we need a professional surveyor who know how to scan the market and find the right ship for us. It was definitely the wrong time to buy a boat as prices raised and the market was nearly empty with yachts in good Bluewater conditions. Initially, we are fixed to a 46-48 foot monohull but luckily we got convinced by our eldest son and of course our boat agents to switch to a more comfortable way of traveling. So we end up looking for a catamaran which provides more space less rolling and much more life quality for a family of four.

2022 – lets get ready

Close to the end of 2021 we found a 1998 Alliaura Marine Privilege 465 which was the perfect fit for our project. A quick visit in Port St. Louis du Rhone followed by a survey and see-trail in early ’22 and we became the new owner of a 46-foot catamaran with 4 cabins, 11 berths, 4 showers and a lot of space. We knew it will be quite a bunch of work to refit the boat but the location is beneficial for us. Guessing we will hit a few kilometers on the highways over the next couple of months driving back and forth between Germany and Port Saint Louise du Rhone close which is close to Marseille, France.

So this is where the story begins – at least for this part of our life! We are looking forward to a pretty intense summer 2022. We have to suspend our kids from school, shut down the personal training center of my wife, get a lot of refit jobs done – as our new sailing vessel need definitely an upgrade – and of course start learning how to sail & circum-navigate a 46-foot catamaran.
We keep you posted and we invite you to be part of our journey….
sincerly
